I hope you all enjoyed the holiday weekend. Today on The Grocery, we have an interview with the lovely Jennifer, whom I’ve gotten to know through culinary events and shared meals filled with laughter, the occasional tea (iykyk), and love.
Hi friends, I am Jennifer Lee Ban, founder of Rice Blossoms. We are passionate about sharing our modernized Korean desserts to the world! :)
What's been your favorite purchase so far this year? Why?
I got a new jean blazer jacket this spring and I love it! This jean blazer is perfect for any occasion, and it makes me feel stylish, confident and powerful!
What do you like to wear? Why?
I actually like to wear anything in black with a low heel pump - it's sophisticated, timeless, and makes you look slim. Low heels are needed to help with my height & stance and be able to walk around everywhere.
What is a current project you’re working on?
My next project is trying to get cafes to carry our desserts so we can be more visible around NYC! (Like at ELOREA, find Rice Blossoms there every Friday and Saturday).
PSA - There is a special collaboration happening TODAY (July 9) at 6:30pm, and I believe there may be a few seats left to reserve here.
From Resy: “Experience a 45-minute workshop on crafting Rice Blossom’s signature songpyeon, along with a specially curated four-course tasting menu featuring Chef Soogil’s signature Beef Wellington.”
What does your day look like?
Oh boy, every day is a bit different. But in general, I start my day by taking care of my two girls, go to hot yoga or the gym if I can, and then start work - emails, productions, meetings, etc. And then late afternoon until evening is mostly mom duties. After the kids go to sleep, I will hop on the computer to do some more work, or on lucky nights, I will be on YouTube watching clips of Korean TV shows until I fall asleep.
What is the best thing about what you do?
Personally, the best thing is having a flexible schedule as I have kids to take care of. Professionally, it is bringing joy to other people's special occasions and sharing our culture. I appreciate all the feedback from customers when they share how much they enjoy & appreciate our desserts, and I love that we are taking part in reviving our culture.
Where can we find/follow you?
