Caroline has a new cookbook out, all about banchan (반찬), and is currently on a book tour. Catch her in New York on December 6, 2024. All photos property of Caroline Choe.
What is a current project you’re working on?
Currently on my book tour for my first cookbook! Making a cookbook and promoting it has been learning a new job in itself, but it’s been great meeting everyone and hearing their own relatable stories to cooking and their own AANHPI experiences.
What does your day look like?
Varies day to day, but this is what’s pretty standard:
Wake up, guzzle water (I try to drink 96 - 125 oz. a day!) and I start answering emails (Leading up to this book tour, there were days I was sitting at my computer from morning until 2pm just trying to correspond!) I might have a meeting here and there.. but what’s become a non-negotiable for my days has been 10-minutes of deep breathing time, 30-minutes of walking or working out, and at least 10-minutes of a quality catch-up conversation with my husband.
What's been your favorite purchase so far this year? Why?
Tickets to the Linda Lindas, Rancid, Smashing Pumpkins, and Green Day headliner this past summer at CitiField. The Linda Lindas get better and better with each performance, and I’d waited almost 30-years to see the Smashing Pumpkins and Green Day perform! It was 95-degrees out that day and SO HOT, but it was worth waiting for!
What is the best thing about what you do?
I’m a teacher at heart, so I do love that I get to guide someone through learning something new. Not every artist is a teacher, but this has been my joy to do whether with children or adults. Also, just having any courage to share any part of my experience or story so it can help show someone they’re not alone in how they might feel.
Where can we find/follow you?
